Tssf The Tssf timer, which resides in the gprsSSF, is the timer that monitors the CAMEL dialogue when the gprsSSF FSM is in the WFI state As long as the gprsSSF FSM is in the WFI state, the Tssf is running There is one Tssf associated with a gprsSSF instance The rules for the Tssf are as follows: Tssf is started when a CAMEL service is started At this point, Tssf is loaded with a default value The default value is SGSN/gprsSSF vendor-speci c and may have a value between 1 and 20 s The gprsSSF FSM has made a transition to the state WFI Tssf is stopped when gprsSSF FSM transits from WFI to MON or from WFI to idle Tssf is started with the default value and restarted when the gprsSSF FSM transits from MON to WFI When the gprsSSF FSM is in state WFI, the gsmSCF may use the reset timer GPRS (RT-GPRS) operation to reload Tssf with a service-speci c value, which is carried in RT-GPRS Tssf is restarted after the reload thereof The Tssf value that is carried in RT-GPRS is valid as long as the gprsSSF FSM is in state WFI When a CAMEL operation is transferred between gprsSSF and gsmSCF whilst the gprsSSF FSM is in state WFI, Tssf is reloaded with the last used timer value and is restarted The last used timer value may be the default Tssf value or the value that was received with RT-GPRS When Tssf expires, the gprsSSF assumes that a communication failure has occurred between gsmSCF and gprsSSF The gprsSSF aborts the CAMEL dialogue and applies default transaction handling to the GPRS session or PDP context The default handling ( continue or release ) to be used is obtained from the TDP de nition in GPRS-CSI that was used to establish the CAMEL service Pre-arranged End The pre-arranged end rules for GPRS control are identical to the pre-arranged end rules for CS call control The GPRS CAMEL relationship is retained as long as one or both of the following conditions are ful lled: there is at least one DP armed in the GPRS session state model or in the PDP context state model; and there is at least one charging report pending 5335 TCAP Segmentation An aspect of the CAP signalling that is very speci c to CAMEL control of GPRS is TCAP segmentation For CS call control, a CAMEL dialogue may remain active for the entire call duration As long as the CAMEL dialogue for the call is active, a TCAP dialogue is allocated to this CAMEL dialogue One aspect of GPRS is that a GPRS session (period of being attached to an SGSN) and a PDP context may have a long duration A subscriber may be attached to an SGSN for days or weeks Likewise, a PDP context may be active for an equally long duration The rationale for having a PDP context active for an inde nite long duration is the always connected concept A subscriber may use a PDP context for internet connection, for corporate LAN connection or for IMS registration If charging is based on the volume of the transferred data, then it is convenient to keep a PDP context active A CAMEL service may be active for the entire duration of a PDP context When an SGSN or SCP needs to handle a large number of simultaneously active PDP contexts, this may lead to too large a number of TCAP dialogues active simultaneously Although TCAP allows for 232 simultaneous TCAP identi ers (see ITU-T Q773 [141]), the number of active TCAP dialogues may still be too large for an SGSN or SCP To overcome this dilemma, CAMEL phase 3 has introduced the TCAP segmentation mechanism; the TCAP segmentation in CAMEL is used only for GPRS control; it is not used for call control or SMS control Refer to Figure 548 for a graphical representation The CAP abbreviations of the CAP operation names used in Figure 548 are listed in Section 534.
